Wow. Super excited to find out this week that two songs I co-wrote and recorded with 7th & Hope (my duo project with Betty Lawrence) have been nominated for Positive Music Awards this year: KEEP THE LIGHT ON and EVERYTHING'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT. The Posi-Awards are like the GRAMMYs for the positive music world, and I am honored to be in the company of the other nominees, which include hit songwriters and veteran artists and performers.
Both of these songs were written on a magical songwriting retreat held at a castle near Macon, France (I know, I am one lucky woman) with my duo partner Betty Lawrence and our friend Nitanee Paris. And on Keep the Light On we were also joined in the writing process by Nitanee's husband Jean-Pierre Williams. Both songs were produced by the amazing Duddy Brown who made tracks of pure electro-pop perfection.
These songs are messages of hope, healing, and optimism in the midst of darkness. I don't know about you, but things have been feeling pretty dark to me--just a few things I could mention... walls, family separations, children in cages, mass shootings, destructive fires, government workers working without pay...and though they pale in comparison, a few personal challenges thrown in: I suffered a broken foot this fall and the loss of our beloved dog, April, who crossed over the rainbow bridge at the age of 15.
So singing these songs has helped me a great deal, and my hope is they will do the same for you. Neither song has been released yet, but will be part of 7th & Hope's next release in 2019, so stay tuned!
The Positive Music Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday March 31 in Tampa Florida at the culmination of the Positive Music Festival. For more info about the Festival and the Awards Ceremony and to register, visit the Empower Music and Arts Website.
